As the Apostle Paul wrote: "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich." Speaker: Pastor Dave Parsons
Sunday, October 30, 2022
Download: MP3
Outline: With Fillins | Without Fillins
One of the dangers of the Christian life is that it can become "too routine". As we become overwhelmed and pre-occupied by the things of everyday life, we can subtly allow our relationship with God to slide and our passion for His work to wane. It was no different for the people of Israel when they returned to the land after their exile in Babylon. They became complacent and fearful, so God sent a faithful prophet by the name of Haggai to renew their commitment and courage. Although Haggai is the second shortest book in the Old Testament, it contains some powerful truths that can revive our Christian walk.

Dangerous Wonder: Will We Drink The Cup? (Mark 10:35-37)
Speaker: Guest Speaker
Sunday, May 1, 2022
In Mark 10:35-37, Mark 10:35–45 describes the arrogant request of James and John to have positions of power and authority in Jesus' coming kingdom. This comes after learning that Jesus values the powerless like women and children (Mark 10:1–16), that those with earthly power and wealth can have a hard time following God because they can tend to value their possessions more (Mark 10:17–22), and that part of Jesus' plan for His kingdom is to die a horrible death (Mark 10:32–34). Neither Luke nor John records this account, but Matthew adds that James and John's mother is involved in the request (Matthew 20:20–28). Guest speaker, Todd Morrison highlights how this passage plays a key role in the Gospel according to Mark's understanding of why Jesus dies and what his death means.

One of the great challenges for the church is that we maintain a healthy balance of being "in the world but not of it". In I Corinthians 1, the Apostle Paul lays the groundwork necessary for reminding the church in Corinth they were out of balance. He reminds of them of their glorious position and calling in Jesus, while also pointing out the sin that made them indistinguishable, in many ways, from the culture around it. Guest speaker, Todd Morrison, reveals that there is much for us to learn from the first chapter of Paul's letter to a church that faced much of what we face in our church and culture.
